Hidden SEO Revisited + Speeding Up Logged In Users

From WP Speed Fix Newsletter

With the rise of AI and ChatGPT many customers are seeing a decline in general organic performance. In this email I wanted to share some of our recommendations that address optimization opportunities that are frequently overlooked.

“Hidden SEO”

I’ve talked about this in previous emails, this concept of “hidden SEO”. Simple fundamentals, commonly overlooked that when addressed properly can make a huge difference to traffic.

Taking a click through rate from 2% CTR to 3% CTR is a 50% increase in traffic without any increase in rankings, essentially a free optimization.

There’s a common misconception in SEO that Rankings=Traffic,

I’ve shared this short video before on how we optimize meta descriptions for CTR

The video breaks down in detail how to generate more traffic from your existing rankings by improving CTR. This is effectively FREE Traffic. The video uses an ecommerce example but the concepts apply to all sites.

It goes for about 8 minutes and is super easy to follow.

The same principle applies to open graph images which is also a gap we commonly see. Open graph images are the images that are displayed on the socials and messenger apps when a link is shared. Quite often they appear in search results too.

We’d typically say get a custom open graph image done for the homepage and key pages and use the homepage as the sitewide default in your SEO plugin.

Generally we’d say use something that is high contrast with a 50/50 mix of text and image and again think of it like marketing copy or a Facebook ad.

is a quick and easy tool for digging into this field otherwise the Facebook opengraph debug tool can be useful too

Here’s a few great examples of open graph images done well: (click to open a preview in the opengraph.xyz tool)

Inverted Pyramid Writing and using an “Early Close” in copy can also make a huge difference to overall engagement of pages and combat the rise of AI – click here to read more about this.

I hope you found this useful, if you have any questions, just hit reply. If you’re interested on doing a deep dive on your SEO, our SEO Audit service is usually the best place to start and if you don’t need the full audit service, our Google Search Console audit service may be a better fit.
